Finger foods for babies serve dual purpose. These recipes are easy and simple and do not require you to fuss around with what you give your baby, as long as it is fresh and nutritious. Your baby develops his motor skills when learning to pick up finger foods and directing it towards their mouths.

According to most pediatrics, your baby is ready to experiment with finger foods as soon as they learn how to sit up, although you might want to initially help and monitor them. Finger foods or bite sized pieces of food should be soft as well as easy to swallow. Your baby needs food that is broken down easily by their digestive systems.

You could choose a few raw foods cut in small thin strips or cubes. These include puffed rice cereal, semi hard cheeses, tofu, avocado, bananas, soft pears and even cereals that are ‘O’ shaped. You could also include a few slices of bread. Cooked finger foods like well cooked vegetables which include carrots, brinjals, small shreds of chicken or meats, cooked apples, potatoes, peas and green beans.

Finger foods are easy to store and make a good mid meal snack for your baby. Freeze them in air tight containers, and when needed thaw them well. You could even add some flavor to finger food recipes by spicing it up with a sprinkle of cinnamon or dry ginger powered on slices of bread or even sweet potatoes and carrots.

You can add a bit of variety to your tofu slices by dusting them with crushed cheerios or flax seed, you could even combine them. If your baby finds it difficult to pick up bananas then dust them with some powdered nuts. This should make it flavorful and highly nutritious, as nuts contain essential oils that are good for your baby’s growth and development.
